Our History
1881
Founded on 1881 under the period of Marathi Kings as College for Northern Language studies.
1910
College was upgraded and it became affiliated to University of Madras.
1927
Tamil Pundit course was started under the approval of University of Madras.
1965
Music department was started, nathaswaram and thavil courses was offered.
1975
Bachelor of Literature (B.Lit) in Tamil was started.
1980
Bharatha Natiyam course was started.
1981
Master of Arts (M.A) in Tamil was started.
1983
Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in music was started.
1984
Miruthangam Full-time Course was started.
1987
Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Sanskrit was started.
1989
Master of Philosophy(M.Phil) in tamil was started.
1993
Our college management became a Self-finance institute, started offering evening college courses for Bachelor of Arts(B.A) in social work and Master of Arts(M.A) in sanskrit.
1995
Doctrate in Tamil and Sanskrit was started.
1996
P.S.Subramanyasasthiri Higher studies Lab for Sanskrit and Sir AD.Panneerselvam Higher Studies Lab for Tamil was Inaugrated.
1997
Music Department was seperated on 1997 July 4th by the Government of Tamilnadu and inaugrated as Government College of Music.
1999
Bachelor of Commerce(B.Com) self-finance course was started.
2000
Bachelor of Computer Science(B.Sc CS) self-finance course was started.
2001
Bachelor of Sociology(BSW) and Bachelor of Literature(B.Lit) in tamil self-finance courses was started.
2010
Bachelor of Arts(B.A) in English self-finance course was started.
2011
Bacherlor of Science(B.Sc) in Mathematics and Bachelor of Arts(B.A) Corporate Secretaryship self-finance courses was started.
